  1. Question
"We all cried in the locker room for hours. Coach cried too" why do you think they were so upset? I think they were because they played the best they could but they just couldn't win, and they were expected to by everyone. Also a half court shot was made. From experience of playing basketball if someone made a half court shot it would upset me as well.

    1. I think they were so upset because they had tried as hard as they could but they just couldnt win.

    2. I agree with Megan that since they didn't they were upset because they tried hard. They tried to do everything they could but it wasn't enought. -Hunter Bennett

    3. I agree with Matt and think that they are so very upset because they put in all that work and they still didnt win.

  2. I predict that something extremely tragic had happened that "She suddenly started crying" (201) when Miss Warren went to pull Junior out of class to deliver some news to him.

    1. Matt I predicted this as well, because normally when your being taken out of class it's for something important or tradgic as you said.

    2. I thout that Roudy died. I did not give the sister a secend though.

  3. Since Rowdy said "I always knew you were going to leave. I always knew you were going to leave us behind and travel the world" than how come he was so upset at Junior when he actually did leave? If Rowdy had expected it to happen than I don't think he should have held a grudge for so long.

    1. I agree with you Nick and think that Rowdy shouldn't of held a grudge so long against Junior. Although he may have known all along that Junior would leave he was probably just upset at the fact that Junior was actually going to go somewhere and had potential unlike Rowdy who would probably not get as far in life except stay on the reservation because he didn't have as much courage to leave.

    2. I think he knew he was going to leave but he did not want it to be true. He wanted his best friend to stay with him.

    3. Well while that is true I think he held a grudge for so long because that's just how he was raised and its hard for him to accept anything else

  4. Theme: Friendship
“I would always love Rowdy. And I would always miss him (Alexie 230).”
Although he made great friends at the school, Junior would always remember and love Rowdy, his long-time best friend, as much as he loved his family, his heritage on the rez, and the kids at school. He wouldn’t abandon him ever again, no matter the reason. Despite the hardships and turn of events which happened earlier in the book, life goes on. Rowdy and Junior forgave each other, and played basketball until the dawn of the next day and didn’t keep score.

    1. I agree with you on this one will because best friends sometimes have the worst fights and this is what happened with Junior and Rowdy. These 2 specimen have and always will love each other because of the sheer time that they spend together during their childhood.

  5. I think the theme of the ending of the book is to stay strong and keep pushing. Junior had three deaths in the second half of his story which was very tramatizing for him. Junior never gave up on his education or wanting to push to be better at basketball. Even when Junior felt like he "had to get out of there" (Alexie 209) and escape, he didn't because he knew that it would be a better future for him if he didn't give up. Junior stuck it through the rough times the end of the book handed to him and that is why I think that the theme of the ending of the book is to stay strong and keep pushing.

    1. I agree with this Sydney because no matter how bad things got or whenever Junior would think maybe I should just go back to the rez, he didn't and he stuck through it.

    2. I agree with Sydney because he went through a lot and even when he could have gone back he didnt because he knew what he was doing would be the best no matter how hard it was.

    3. I do agree with Sydney to a certain point. I also think my theme applies because the reservation is completely hopeless and everybody on it does drink. That is why Junior wants to leave and make a new life for himself

    4. Sydney I agree with you because you should always stay strong and keep pushing because with basketball you should never give up no matter how much you want to. Junior also pushed to be better in school which shows his determination.

    5. I agree with Sydney because at the end of the book there were many deaths. And Stay strong and keep pushing is exactly what Junior had to do. -Hunter Bennett

    6. It's good to see that even when he was at his low point he can still stand up strong

  6. The theme at the end of the book would be hopeless. I think this is represented by the quote "everybody drinks." That quotes shows how on the reservation nobody is motivated to do anything because they all are drunk all the time. This is because they are trying to get away from the vicious cycle of not having a job and being very poor but it really only ruins their chances of getting better life so it is a never ending circle. This quote also shows why Junior wants to leave the reservation to make a better life for himself away from drinking and depression.

    1. I would have to say Chris, that I agree with you on this one, I agree that the drinking problem on the Rez is definitely a never ending cycle not only because of what you said but because the successful Indians are looked down upon so no one has ambition to do good.

  7. I predict that because of all the events that have transpired for Junior, he and his parents will probably become closer as a whole and his dad may spend more time with Junior and he may stop drinking hopefully a bit. " Love and death my father said, its all love and death. You're crazy I said, im crazy about you he said."( Pg 216)

    1. This is a good prediction that the family will become closer and that maybe the dad will stop drinking some. They family did have to handle 3 deaths toward the ending of the book so maybe they will become closer as a family because they're all they have left.

    2. I agree with this Tyler, hopefully his father will see that his son is more important than gambling and drinking. I also think that the events will result in Junior and Rowdy to become closer again. While they were playing basketball together they "played one-on-one for hours, we played until dark." This will probably mean that they will end up being best friends again!

    4. I think this prediction was good because after all of the deaths and problems they have, they need to become close and support each other. The father will need to stop drinking in order to be able to spend more time with his family in his right mind.

    5. I agree that the will all make them come together as a family.

  8. Prediction:
Since Junior said, "I will always love Rowdy" (Sherman, 230), then I think these 2 specimen will still be friends in the future. I predict that Junior will still go outside of the Rez and his hometown and live an adventurous life but him and Rowdy will still stay connected. Even though, they will be separated physically because Rowdy will be stuck on the Rez, they will always think of each other and possibly send mail.

  10. "So she could slap him instead" this paragraphs theem was about greef. It is showing how the mother is grieving the loss of her only daughter. It shows how they are all dealing with the loss of another family member.

  12. Why do you think Rowdy forgave Junior? They have barley talked since the game. And one random summer day he came over and it was like nothing happened. Rowdy went over and said "i'm bored" (Alexie227). And they were back to being friends again and play basketball. -Hunter Bennett

  13. How can you relate with Arnold When he lost his family members ?

I can relate when Miss Warren walked in and was about to tell Arnold about his sisters death. I felt like I could relate to Arnold when he kept putting on an act like he didn't know what she meant what Warren had said " Your sisters gone" and he kept playing is as " " I know she gone " I said " She lives in Montana now " " As if nothing was wrong like he had no clue. I know I felt the same way when I was 13 in middle school my grandfather died and I got called down during school. The school councilor I don'r think really knew what do with me because I kept denying it since I had just seen him the day before and I was going on about how I was supposed to go there on Saturday to help him in his garden. The councilor finally just had to come out and say he was dead and when I finally connected it in my head the sadness didn't hit me at first it took a a few mins until I started to cry for what seemed to other was for no reason.

  14. Prediction
I predict that the main character goes to the reardan high school and everyone picks on him. But later on he is actually good then rowdy soon realizes he wants to get out of the fez too and joins junior. He does this because of all the hope he has like in he book he says, 'those kids were beautiful they knew everything, and they were beautiful and smart, they were beautiful smart and epic. They were filled with hope'(Alexis 50) this quote says he has hope after Mr P gave him that pep talk about getting out of town.
