Why is it so important for junior to make sure no one knows he's poor?
ReplyDeleteJunior doesn't want to be made fun of, he's finally starting to fit in, he doesn't want anything to get in the way of him fitting in and making friends.
DeleteIts Important to him that no one knows he is poor because he thinks it will change everyones opinion of him. Currently hes the "stud" the "Cool Guy", he doesnt want to be made fun of by kids who would make fun of poor people.
DeleteBecause first, he thinks that if his other class mates find out, they won't hang out with him and anymore. Second, since he's 'sort of' going out with Penelope, he doesn't want her to feel uncomfortable around him.
Deletebecause if people at the school knew the only indian kid was poor than they will probably think differently of him and think that most indians are poor.
DeleteJunior is doing his best to fit in and he feels that if others find out that he's poor they will make fun of him or treat him differently then they are now.
DeleteDo you think Juniors dream of being architect and why he wants to do it, "Because I want to build something beautiful. Because I want to be remembered" is how he feels all the time but never feels important?
ReplyDeleteI think this is how junior feels a lot. He is trying to make things better for himself by switching schools and hoping that maybe it will make it better for others if they follow him but he is just being unappreciated. He just wants to do good and be remembered in his life with something he does.
DeleteWhy does Penelope cry when Junior explains how he gets to and from school every day, what does she say to him? ~ Mark Theriault
ReplyDeletePenelope feels sympathetic for him. She then wants Roger to drive him home everyday since it's freezing outside.
DeleteShe cries because she is so upset that someone she cares about has to go through so much hard ship. She cares about him and doesn't care that he is poor.
DeleteBecause she loves him and want him to be safe. She doesn't want him to get hurt. She might feels that she is spoiled in a way where she can be driven to school or take a bus where he cant.

ReplyDeleteWould Junior's family be in a better position if their father wasn't an alcoholic? Would they still be poor?
I think that they would still be poor because they are coming from a poor generation and I do think that the dad is just making it worse.
DeleteThis is similar to my question. Alcohol is expensive and the family is always complaining about how they are so poor. So if the father wasnt such a drunk than they would have more money for gas to bring junior to school.
DeleteI think things would be a lot better if Juniors father wasn't an alcoholic because he wouldn't be spending money on alcohol and he could get all their lives together more instead of drinking all the time.
DeleteIf Junior's family is so poor they how can the father afford to buy so much alcohol?
ReplyDeleteI think that his father just works and only puts his money towards alcohol, rather than support the family like a real father should.
DeleteThe Family Is Poor Because The Father Buys So Much Alchohal...
DeleteI agree with you that he shouldn't be buying all that alcohol. But he is an alcoholic and it becomes a disease. He wouldn't be able to function without having alcohol in his system.
DeleteAll the money goes toward the alcohol, that is a big reason why they are poor.
DeleteIf junior talks to his parents do you think he will get better advice about penelope? will they help him rather than call him "Just another racist asshole"?
ReplyDeletei think they will give him advice of course, but it might not be the advice he was looking for.
DeleteI would like to think his parents could help him however the dad is an alcoholic and the mother would probably rather see junior marry a Indian woman.
DeleteJunior is lacking confidence in terms of making the basket ball team. What keeps Junior going and willing to go through the pain?
ReplyDeleteI believe that he learns from others failure.
DeleteAt the end of the chapter, after Penelope and Roger found out that Arnold was poor they didn't judge him and actually cared about him. Penelope cared so much that she cried for him. At the end Arnold said, "If you let people into your life they can be pretty damn amazing." What does this say about how Arnold is learning to trust people?
ReplyDeleteArnold is realizing that white people really are not as bad as he thinks. He realizes that they care more for him then his people do.
DeleteDid Penelope behave appropriately to when she found out that he was poor. Even though she found out he was poor she didn't make fun of him she instead she was sad for him and stayed with him.- Briana K
ReplyDeleteI think that it was good that she did this because you cant hate someone for being poor and it doesn't change who he is.
DeleteI think she over reacted to it, she could have been more supportive instead of crying and making a scene over it.
DeleteWhy might Penelope be limited in life? Junior draws a picture of Penelope and talks about limitations.
ReplyDeleteBased on your readings, what can you
ReplyDeleteconclude about Penelope? Is she just using him is she just being nice.
I think that Penelope is doing alittle bit of both. I think that she does like him alittle but she is just using him to change things up alittle bit and date another type of guy
DeleteDo you think Penelope was appropriate when she found out that Junior was poor? What did you predict that would have been like?
ReplyDeleteIts nice that she didn't run the other way when she found out about him being poor. I must of been a relief for him but her reaction might of thrown him off a bit.
DeleteWhat are your thoughts on Roger? Is he a nice person overall or is he just acting nice to get on Juniors good side to later turn on him?
ReplyDeleteRoger seems like a bit of a bad guy at first but when he finds out that JR is poor he really feels bad for him.
DeleteI think that Rodger is a genuine good guy. He is nice to juniorand I think he cares about him. Penelope said Rodger was the first one to think junior was poor and he gave him $40. Not anyone would just do that for someone they don't like. I think he is watching out for junior and will help him.
DeleteHow do you think junior feels going from a place that hates him to somewhere where he is excepted? Is that why he feels uncomfortable sharing who he really is? Is he afraid they will hate him too if they know?
ReplyDeleteHow does Penelope's dad feel about Junior?
ReplyDeletePenelope's dad does not like junior.
DeleteWhat happens at Denny's? Why does Junior draw the comic "Pancakes of Doom"?
