  1. According to Junior, "some Indians think you have to act white to make your life better. Some Indians think you become white if you try to make you life better, if you become successful" (131). What is Junior struggling with here?

    1. He is struggling with the fact that he wants to succeed in life but also he wants the acceptance of the people on the rez even though before he left to go to Reardan everyone besides his family and rowdy already hated him

    2. I think Junior is struggling with how badly he wants to succeed in life. He thinks being Indian is a handicap towards him and that he can't become successful as an Indian.

    3. I think he struggles with is his confidence because if people on the rev put him down so much cause he might not be as good as a white man them he will struggle with trying to find the urge to be successful.

  2. According to Gordy, "life is a constant struggle between being and individual and being a member of the community" (132). What do you think Gordy means?

    1. I think that Gordy means that life is the balance between being unique/making change in the world and being part of family/friends/being happy.

  4. when Jr talk about how "some Indians think you have to act white to make your life better. Some Indians think you become white if you try to make you life better, if you become successful" ( pg 131 ) Why do you think the Jr and the other Indian think like this?

  5. Was Junior choosing to go to Reardan worth the cost of a broken friendship with Rowdy and even more hate from his fellow Native Americans on the rez?

    1. I think Junior going to Reardan was worth a broken friendship and hatred on the rez because he has a lot of opportunities waiting for him. He's a freshmen already playing varsity basketball and he's making friends with the coolest kids in school! Things are happening for him that would never happen if he was still on the rez.

    2. I think it was the right choice for Junior to go for Reardan. It will help him get a better education and overall will help him for the future. The people on the rez are going to get used to it after a while. And in the long run an education is better than the people on the rez.

    3. I think it was worth the friendship troubles. He will get a better education and give himself a better chance at success. I feel as though he will be able to reclaim his friendship with Rowdy when he comes to his senses. I think the Natives may respect him after he shows them he can be tough enough to handle any punishment they give him.

  6. Do you think Juniors sister will ever return to the rez. Because of a broken heart, or a broken wallet?

    1. I don't think she will ever return. She will keep moving around with her husbandmen and never return to the rez.

  7. Was Junior playing in that basketball game worth taking the beating he did? He says "You stitch me up. I want to play tonight." Then he goes back in and minutes later gets knocked out by Rowdy.

    1. Nick, how are you first of all, but yea i think that the game was worth it because he showed defiance to all of the rez folks.

    2. Dear Nicolas James Brennan, I think it was worth it because Junior is just trying to fit in and wants to be accepted by not just the kids at Reardan but from Rowdy.

    3. I think it was worth it for Junior to keep playing in the game because it showed that he will not give up and will keep fighting under every circumstance.

  8. Do you think Junior will play the second game against his old high school? "As we got off the bus and walked toward the gym, I could hear the crowd going crazy inside" (Alexie 143).

    1. I think Junior will play the second game against his old high school because he was so dedicated to playing in the first game. Every time he got knocked down he kept wanting to go back in and while he's in the hospital he says to his coach "I would walk out of the hospital and walk all the way back to Wellpinit to play them right now if I could."

    2. I think Junior will play the second game against his old school because he wants to prove that he has changed for the better by going to Reardon.

    3. i think he will play the secend game because if he doesent he will always regretit, if he does not play he will luse all his pride

  9. Sydney Stengel- do you think Rowdy behaved approprietly at the basketball game when he " slammed his elbow" into Junior's face? Why or why not?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No, Rowdy didn't behave appropriately at the basketball game. He could have just took the ball and scored but instead he wanted to hurt his best friend. I think Rowdy was being immature and wanted to hurt him instead of talking to him. Junior keeps trying to talk to him but Rowdy rather just fight him.

  10. "I bled alone, until Eugine my dads best friend walked in" When junior got hurt in the game and his dads friend was the EMT to help him, do you think that was more of a relief for Junior or more anger? - megan

  12. Is it true that people in general can be successful as long as they have motivation and commitment no matter their background? Is this true about Junior and his success? What about all of the other people on the Reservation?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It is true because Junior is able to leave his normal school and go to Reardon where he wants to go, even if he has to walk there. He is willing to do whatever it takes to build a better life for himself. The others dont even try.

  13. Will Junior be able to continue at Reardon after his friends find out he is poor?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes he will because they do find out and except him for what he is and don't shun him out just because he can't afford anything. The kids at rearden have more respect for Junior then the Indians did so they're not just going to kick him to the curb because they are more understanding.

    2. I think so because the freinds hes made will most likely stay with him, sense hes been with them for a while.

  14. Response to Tyler: I think that even though Junior is loosing friendships and leaving the rez, being at this highschool is better for him. He is able to experience something new, which is good for him. - megan

  15. Hunter I do think that Junior will be playing in his second game against the high school because he will be that much more determined to show them he is not afraid and is good. Junior can overcome his obsticles and be a great player and his old school students just need to respect him and play a real game of basketball because Junior deserves respect that he had given him.

  16. Did Junior really abandon his Indian heritage in favor of living like a white kid in a white school?

  17. Response to Matt: Even though Junior is poor I think that he will still keep the same friends because they will be supportive, rather than just leave him as a friend. - megan

  18. Junior didn't behave appropriately when he was lying about not being poor because once people find out that he was lying nobody will like him anymore.
